Abstraction

“………. 2a an abstract or visionary idea. b the formation of abstract ideas ………”

I suppose this is could describe Gwen Marston’s new book.

I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s on my Christmas list and I hope if I’m good enough Santa may decide I deserve it.  (Mum – subtle hint if you are reading this!)

However, Woolywoman, aka Laura, over at Yarn, Kids, Dogs and a Few Weirdos (got to love that title) has already made a start.  Hop on over a take look.  Great colours.

Coming up for Air

We’ve been busy, getting up at 6.30 am and painting until 10.00 a.m, then collapsing in a heap and trying to get rid of the smell of white spirit.  Why?

Look.

Before

After

And we’re off!

The water temperature has hit the magic 22°C.  I had the first swim last night and another one this morning.  Alex’s mates are here swimming their hearts out (and shouting too), and we feel that summer has finally started!

And today my cup overfloweth!  I found this gem on play.com.  There was only one left!  Help!  Rang up DS-D who was in the middle of cooking for a dinner party.  Told her to drop everything and get it quick before it went.  Isn’t she a star!

And what I am doing now?  Trying my hardest to sew and catch up on those UFO’s.  I’ve cut up an old pink and white skirt and am hoping to start on the quilt for my niece to be.  In the meantime, I’ve got plenty to keep me busy.

I’ve also moved the Liberated Quilters web ring.  Click on the Home/Join link on the badge on the right there and see if you qualify.  If you do, leave a comment and we’ll get back to you.

Tonya has been in contact with the AQS trying to get them to reprint Liberated Quiltmaking.

They have answered her email as follows:

“Here’s what would help: AQS would like to know how many people would commit to pre-ordering an exact reprint priced at $36 or so. If you would capture this information among Gwen’s fans, say in the next couple of weeks or however long it takes you to ask around, and pass it along to me, we’ll take a look at the idea.”

We want to get it reprinted so please please please hop over to Tonya’s blog here and leave a comment.  Alternatively please email me at lebrouillac at gmail dot com and I will forward it on to Tonya.

On your marks, get set, go!

The Day the Earth Shook

Filed under: Free Piecing, Gwen Marston, Liberated Quiltmaking — Clare @ 11:17 am

One ruler with some dark blue FQ’s to finish my Lazy Gal project.

I’m on a high – very big high!

After writing yesterday’s post the postman arrived. He delivered a big box from America.

I couldn’t for the life of me think what it was. Had I won a giveaway (highly unlikely as I never do!), or had I ordered something online and forgotten about it (again not likely).

The Customs declaration form said it was a book. What on earth????? I’m sure I hadn’t ordered anything recently. The Euro/Dollar/Sterling thing has put a stop to that!

Only one thing for it – start opening it! Now who do I know who lives in WI? Only Finn and I know she hasn’t sent me anything and the name does look vaguely familiar. Questions, questions, questions. Start ripping and let’s see what’s inside.

Loads of bubblewrap. Whatever it is , it must be precious.

Screams, yells, jumping up and down – the family came rushing thinking I’d hurt myself.

LOOOOK!

It’s from Kathie at Threadlines.

Her card says

“I happened upon a bargain priced copy of this book a couple of weeks ago. I already owned a copy; what to do with this new book?

I decided it belonged to someone who really wanted a copy and was unlikely to find one where she lived. “Someone” suggested you.”

That “someone” received a phone call yesterday from a very incoherent me. Sorry Tonya – I probably wasn’t making much sense!

Kathie – you are one of life’s nice people. Thank you so very very very much. I still can’t believe I now own this book and have to keep making sure it’s actually on the table.

On that note – the sun is shining – for the first time it’s warm – I’ve got a patio to pressure wash and Gwen Marston and Liberated Quiltmaking is going to have to wait until afternoon tea time, but I’ll probably keep on popping into the kitchen to make sure it’s still here!

I’m back …….

Filed under: Gwen Marston, Lazy Gal, Pere Lechaise — Clare @ 6:58 pm

and the secret is out. Most of you guessed where I was going. Well, it was pretty obvious wasn’t it.

I’m all quilted out. Talk, talk, talk, read, read, read, walk, walk, walk and more talk, talk, talk and I got to read Gwen Marston’s Liberated Quiltmaking, Liberated Strings and Collaborative Quilting, not to mention loads of other books and magazines. Tonya gave me some gorgeous fabric for Quilts4 Leukaemia. Photo soonest.

Pere Lechaise

Weather was not on its best behaviour, but we did manage to get some walking in and I wandered off on my own and walked my feet off!

More as and when.

In Shock!

Filed under: Gwen Marston — Clare @ 10:17 am

Every so often I do a bit of surfing trying to find a relatively cheap copy of Liberated Quiltmaking by Gwen Marston.

Tonya and I exchanged emails a few months ago about the “secondhand” price of this book so you imagine my horror when I found this on Amazon this morning. Look at the “Price at a Glance” box on the right and then scroll down to the bottom. Yikes!

Tonya – you know you said you were going to insure your copies, well you had better insure them for a lot higher than you were originally thinking of!

Wonky House Wall Hanging top is nearly done! Couldn’t sleep again last night so instead of tossing and turning I got up and sewed until about 3.00 a.m!

Because of that we all overslept this morning. Alex is in a major sulk as she missed the school bus and had to be driven into school. Oh the shame of being seen with your mother and having to be driven into school! She turned her head so that she couldn’t be “seen” as we got close to the school gates. Kids eh!
